The Silver Trowel
The ‘Silver Trowel – Brick and Blocklaying Apprentice of the Year’ award is proudly supported by The Brick and Blocklayers Federation, Firth Industries and BCITO. The award has been designed to recognise excellent behaviours in brick and blocklaying apprentices.
The Brick and Block Federation believe that an excellent apprentice:
Has good laying skills;
Has a good understanding of building code requirements; NZ Standards, Industry Best Practice Guides and other relevant technical information;
Has a good understanding of the regulatory compliance environment;
Demonstrates ‘working within competency’
Displays good employee behaviours;
Has good written and verbal communication skills;
Has a good understanding of computing and communications technology;
Here’s what you need to know:
The 2018 award is open to all apprentices who graduated after 1 June 2016 or current apprentices.
Applications open on 29 March 2018 and close midnight 30 June 2018.
Apprentices are required to submit a portfolio of their work with their application.
Employers and BCITO Training Advisors will also be required to provide supporting documentation.
- Your tutor will provide an assessment as part of your final offsite training course.
The winner is announced at the Brick and Block Federations annual conference in Christchurch on Friday September 14 2018.
